Goal for Black Claw Crag -Kalista’s Version

Black Claw Crag Mini Quest Solution:

To start:
Go to the Black Claw Crag rooms in southeastern Abend and walk around until you see this in the room:

A thick layer of mist is obscuring your vision.

Enter mist to get in. The area entrance then locks until next repop.
The first room is a prep room with a crystal.
Touch crystal when you’re ready to start.
This can only be done by one player at a time, and only once per area repop.
Make sure you’re at max hp and mana before you touch it, because you can’t use potions or pills.

You’ll be transported to a 3×3 circle section, with the middle room blocked off.
You cannot enter this middle section. When you transfer in, the outer circle will be filled with eggs that can’t be attacked.

At some point, Axaldra will take off and enter the northern room of the circle. Axaldra will periodically (every 3-4 combat rounds) move clockwise.
Note: It does not enter the corner rooms – it moves from the northern room to the eastern one to the southern one to the western one and back north.
Axaldra will constantly cause explosions in its room and the four closest rooms. For example, if Axaldra is in the northern room, only the southern three rooms are safe from explosions. If Axaldra is in the eastern room, only the western three rooms are safe. Each explosion does 25000 damage.

All eight rooms contain dragon whelps. These are aggro and have sanc/protgood/protevil/haste but cause very little damage. However, they’re healed by Axaldra’s explosions very quickly.
Your actual goal is to kill the dragon whelps in the western, northern, eastern, and southern rooms. The corner dragons do not need to be killed.
The challenge of the fight is to not get caught in Axaldra’s explosions. You must regularly retreat clockwise to stay ahead of Axaldra’s explosions while damaging the whelps more than they get healed by Axaldra.
Start by dispelling the whelps’ sanctuary and prot good/evil (if you’re not neutral), as they do not spellup again. Apply important debuffs such as rune of ix for casters.

After that, it’s probably best to plan to first whittle down and kill two whelps in opposing rooms (e.g., western and eastern). If you time it perfectly, you can get 4 rounds of an attack skill/spell on each of the two each cycle, which will let you gradually whittle them down.
For the other two whelps (that you’re not currently working on), retreat past them ASAP so that you’re ready to enter the “target” whelp’s room once it becomes safe.
Do not stack a bunch of attack spells, because you might fail a retreat and get hit with massive damage.

As the whelps die, the fight gradually gets easier since you will no longer need to retreat through every room and can spellup in the emptied room.
Once all four dragon whelps are dead, you will be transferred to the center room where you can kill a very weak mob to receive its weapon. This weapon is the reward.
